The Coding Source (TCS) was formed by the principals of  Sinaiko Healthcare Consulting, a highly respected consulting firm based in Los Angeles, California. Greg Sinaiko, the founder and CEO of The Coding Source, was working at Sinaiko when he realized that many of his medical group clients did not have the training they needed to handle the coding process. Realizing a glaring need for improved medical coding services, Greg convinced the owners of Sinaiko Healthcare Consulting to launch TCS in 2002.

 

Medical coding is the process of converting descriptions of medical procedures into specific codes that are billed to insurance companies and claims administrators. It is an incredibly complex process that requires very specialized training on an ongoing basis to stay current on codes and rules that change at least annually.

 

The Company's initial goal was to meet coding needs by training and placing certified medical coders to meet the demands of today's complex regulatory environment. Soon after, TCS found a market receptive to outsourcing the coding function. Landing two big medical groups within the company’s first year, TCS was able to hire two medical coding thought leaders to service these clients. Then, in 2004, when reimbursement became risk-adjusted for Medicare Advantage health plans, the importance of documentation and coding accuracy and completeness became even more important.

 

Today, our services have expanded beyond chart review and training to compliance monitoring, auditing and risk adjustment services that leverage our nationwide network of certified coding specialists. We continue our focus on doing one thing exceptionally well – understanding all matters of documentation and coding, and putting those competencies to work through tailored services that solve real customer problems.
